TRCA Neighborhood News: Strong Chemical Odor Near Taylor Run: HAZMAT Called

Hell All,

Today in the early afternoon long time & observant residents of E. Taylor Run noticed a strong odor emanating from an area near a large gas main manhole at the intersection with S. View Terrace.  The on a weekly basis neighbors see the gas company employees with a pump truck at this manhole emptying the underground water that accumulates.  Earlier today these neighbors saw the gas company performing their regular pump out.  However not long after the gas company crew left, the odor made its presence.

After the many futile attempts at contacting the gas company to complain that the oily smell seemed to be related to the most recent visit by the gas company pump truck, the residents called the Alexandria Fire Department.  As of 8 pm this evening the AFD HAZMAT team is trying to pinpoint the source and chemical makeup of the odor.  They have been scouring both the manhole area and Taylor Run Creek near the intersection with Duke St.
