Virginia Beach Amateur Radio Club

Amateur Radio Operators,

As the President of the Virginia Beach Amateur Radio Club, I'd like to take this opportunity to invite each of you to come to this years' HamFest. There are several compelling reasons. First is the location-Virginia Beach. Virginia Beach is nestled in Southeast Virginia, bordered to the east by the Atlantic Ocean and to the north by the Chesapeake Bay. We have ample local hotels, motels, and restaurants, both on and off the water. Virginia Beach - a great tourist location in the fall. That same weekend is the kickoff of the annual Neptune Festival with the Oceana Air Show. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday you will have the opportunity to see the latest Military aircraft in static displays and breathtaking tactical flying by the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels, precision parachute jumps by the U.S. Army's Black Daggers and the Navy's Leap Frogs being the highlights of this event

Second is the fellowship to be found with amateur radio operators. Hams, as you well know, are some of the nicest people around. Excellent discussion groups are planned, as well as an FCC testing session on site Saturday morning. Walk-ins will be welcome. There will be a great lineup of dealers on the show floor to help you get a new rig commensurate with your license. There will also be tables inside for used equipment as well as tailgating in the parking lot. There is an excellent dining facility at the event as well.

Third, the HamFest is the ARRL Roanoke Division Convention. ARRL representatives will be on hand for you to talk with about any ham radio concerns that you may have.

The HamFest will be held on the campus of the Virginia Wesleyan College on 17-18 September. Doors will open at 0900 on both days, and the show will last until 1700 on Saturday and 1600 on Sunday. Prize drawings will be held throughout the two days.

Directions: I-64 to Exit 282 North (US Route 13 or Northampton Blvd) to the first traffic signal, turn right onto Wesleyan Drive. Go approximately mile and turn right into the Virginia Wesleyan Campus. The guard at the gate will direct you to the Hamfest.

The local repeater is at 146.97 -. There is also a website available at www.vahamfest.com. Tables are $25. Tailgating is $15, and admission is only $5, which will get your name in the hat for one of numerous door prizes.

So, please make it a point to come to the HamFest, support amateur radio, and participate in the Roanoke Division Convention.

73,

Jim Lindsey, AG4XT

President, Virginia Beach Amateur Radio Club
