Public Safety Update

An arrest was made in the series of burglaries that took place over the summer in the area of West Taylor Run and Janneys Lane. Lieutenant Torres of the Alexandria Police says that this arrest could result in the closure of up to seven cases. The suspect was arrested at 2727 Duke Street thanks to what were described as the “tenacious efforts” of an APD officer to locate this individual.

Graffiti continues to be an issue in the City, much of it due to gang activity. If you see any in the neighborhood, please report its specific location to the Police Non-Emergency line at 703.838.4444. The police will photograph it in some cases, as these markings can yield a lot of info on what individuals and groups are up to. The police will then arrange for the graffiti’s removal. Remember that allowing graffiti to remain in place can, and often does, lead to more graffiti around it. Never assume that someone else reported it.

Campaign signs for both Presidential candidates have been stolen and vandalized in our neighborhood. If your sign is stolen or damaged, please report it to the Police Non-Emergency number listed above. The Police are taking these incidents very seriously. Please do likewise if you witness an attack like this in progress (be sure to notice anything distinguishing about those involved, such as clothing and/or vehicle colors). Remember, campaign signs are an expression of one of our most basic rights, Freedom of Speech. Please respect and protect it.
