Hello All,
Elizabeth Jones from the TRCA executive committee took
some notes at Monday's meeting about the water main
replacement project on King Street. Neighbors on
Carlisle and Park streets will be most affected by the
work! Here are here notes:
About 6 people attended.
The project will run from the intersection of N. View
Terrace and Rosemont up to King and then continue up
King to Walnut. It is replacing approximately 1,165
feet of old water pipe. The pipe is located roughly 5
feet off the curb. The new, 8 inch pipe will be
installed 5 feet further out into the street. The
project is going through the Citys permitting process
right now and American Water is hopeful to have a
start date around the week of July 10. The City
confirmed this should be doable.
They will work on approximately 180 feet/day, as this
is the amount they feel they can finish each day.
Traffic on King Street will be made one-lane and
traffic will be controlled with flaggers at each end.
Only the 180 feet being worked on at any given time
will be closed. Construction will only occur between
the hours of 9:00AmMand 3:30PM. The only reason
construction would proceed later is if the old water
line were to rupture and emergency repairs were needed
(in this case, obviously advanced notice of water
outages would not be possible). Those who have
driveways on affected roads will be aided in getting
in and out of their driveways.
The roadway will be sealed each night with 2 inches of
asphalt (not the metal plates). Metal plates will be
on the worksite, in case they are needed to assist
someone out of a driveway from their home. About a
week after the project is completed, a contractor will
repave over the entire road where the project
occurred. A week lag time is needed to test the pipes
and water.
Water outages: It is anticipated that water outages
will be limited to those who reside on Park and
Carlisle when the main water pipe is connected at 2 or
3 different places. Notification will be made by
putting a flyer in residents doors. Outage of water
is expected to last 4-6 hours at a time these 2 or 3
times. Those who live right on King and Rosemont will
have their individual homes tied into the main at
which point there will be about 45 minutes to an hour
of no water to each residence as it is connected.
Again, notification will be made in advance (min. 24
hours).
Variable message boards will be placed at the foot of
King by Callahan and at Janneys Lane. The project
should take 6-8 weeks.
