The only DSTAR repeater operating in Iowa is W0SCI in Grimes, (443.175 +5 and 145.350 -.6)
used by a dozen DSTAR operators in the DesMoines area.
I won an IC-2820H at Dayton last year (it cost me $195 in Federal gift tax this February). It did not have the UT-123 DSTAR/GPS adapter board installed. I decided not to spend the $285 when I learned that the IC-2820H with UT-123 will not support APRS internally, and DSTAR will not operate if the data port is connected to a TNC for APRS.
I might be tempted to buy the UT-123 DSTAR adapter if a DSTAR repeater went up in the Cedar Rapids area.
At the Des Moines hamfest two weeks ago, I received a hardcopy of the W0SCI DSTAR Repeater System User Documentation, which has instructions on how to register to use their Internet gateway. I will make you a copy if you are interested. Worth registering, if you plan to be within 40 miles of Grimes.

The UPS guy just delivered my new Icom DSTAR radio, and I was wanting to
play with it. So the question is, are there any DSTAR frequencies or
frequency pairs in Eastern Iowa? I tried a web search to find standard
simplex calling frequencies, but nothing found for Iowa. It seems to be
more prevalent down south, TX, Alabama & so forth. I am totally new to
DSTAR, still trying to figure it out.
Anybody have any ideas or suggestions? At this point, I can do simplex,
but since there is no defined channel for that, it is kind of a guess.
I ordered the ID-880H, (144/440 moblie rig) it shares the same packet
jacks as my IC706, and the programming cable is the same as Icom
handhelds, so if nothing else, it will be put into service as a APRS rig
for me.
