TRCA Neighborhood News: Traffic Calming at Janneys Lane and East/West Taylor Run

The Executive Committee successfully persuaded the
city to honor our request to evaluate effectiveness of
the proposed design for traffic claiming at the
Janney’s and E/W Taylor Run intersections.  The city
is painting the new layout of the intersection along
with cones or similar markers and will gather data on
the effects to traffic and pedestrians that use the
intersection for several days.  This evaluation period
was something the association demanded from the city
over 4 years ago when the traffic calming effort for
this intersection first began.

The traffic calming plan for this intersection calls
for changes to the curbs and crosswalks to make the
intersection more pedestrian friendly and reduce the
speed of traffic.  The painted markings indicate where
the 'temporary' rubber curbs will be installed once
the evaluation period is complete.  The data gathered
during this evaluation period will be used to tweak
the final design to ensure optimal performance for
both pedestrians and traffic. 

Brief History: The traffic claiming effort for
Janney’s lane started over 4 years ago spearheaded by
our adjoining Neighborhood Clover College Park.  They
successfully petitioned their neighbors and the
proposal was approved by the City’s Traffic & Parking
Board.  The traffic calming at the E/W Taylor Run &
Janney’s intersection represents the last component of
the approved plan.

At the next Board meeting on 20 Jun the results of
this evaluation will be discussed in detail.  You are
welcome to come and discuss your concerns.  The
meeting will be held at 7:30 PM at the Masonic
Memorial.
