Bob,
I think the loop will be your best choice since you have the option to
orient it to null the noise. Try to balance it and shield it to maximize
the depth of the null off of the end. Arrange it so you can adjust it in
both azimuth and tilt because you will most likely find the deepest null
will occur at a tilted angle.
If you can find an electrically quiet site the efield probe is simple and
effective. But you have noise. You are headed the right direction with
your loop.
