It's hard to believe, but once again we have another fall semester to<br>
look forward. There have been many changes here to the lab, and so
I<br>
would like to take some time to introduce those changes.<br>
<br>
First of all, please welcome Dr. Bong Wie as the new director to the<br>
lab. In addition to Dr. Bong Wie, we also have Dr. Soon-Jo Chung
who<br>
will also be very active in the lab. Both of them have a lot of<br>
expertise, and fresh ideas to bring to the lab and the projects that it<br>
hosts. So please welcome them to ISU and the lab.<br>
<br>
In addition to our new faculty involved with the lab, the name of the<br>
lab is also changing. We are officially now the Space Systems and<br>
Controls Lab (SSCL). While the name of the lab has changed, many
of the<br>
things that we do here at the lab will not. HABET will still play
a<br>
significant role in the lab. Many of our other existing projects
will<br>
also remain unchanged. We will however be growing in the lab with<br>
additional projects and students that will be active in the lab. And
we<br>
will of course continue our commitment to helping students become<br>
leaders in the areas of Aerospace Engineering and Systems Engineering as<br>
well as in other disciplines of engineering.<br>
<br>
With the new name of the lab we will also be re-organing both the<br>
website for the lab, as well as our mailing lists. Please read the<br>
following if you wish to continue to receive emails about the HABET program.<br>
<br>
We will create a new mailing list called sscl-habet@iastate.edu. If
you<br>
are currently on this list, with an active iastate.edu, you will<br>
automatically be transferred to the new list. For all other email<br>
domains, you need to contact me to remain on the list. The list will<br>
continue to announce upcoming balloon flights, but otherwise the traffic<br>
will be light (as in the past). The new list will go into effect
this<br>
Wednesday.<br>
<br>
As far as upcoming flights go, HABET flight L-100-A (Altitude record<br>
flight) is scheduled for September 1st. However, that date may change.
<br>
More information on that flight will be sent out later.<br>
<br>
