This is why I asked a few months ago about people using APRS on RAGBRAI.
I have been working to try to get better coverage in Cedar Falls,
Independence, and points along the route. As of right now, I got a digi
running at 100' in Waterloo that covers about 3/4 of the county (W0MG),
and an Igate for connection to the internet. I setup a new DIGI in
Independence(KC0RMS), but that is only about 40', so it is not hearing
much until you are within about 6 to 8 miles of it.
Ideally, I would like to see people able to use small simple trackers,
we just setup a few big digis along the way, and let the network sort it
out, but that would also require people to be more mindful of their path
settings.
We are trying to gear up some of the ham radio volunteers in the area,
get them helping with communications, but it is a struggle to find
people willing to volunteer so much effort for such little recognition.
For those of you on the ride, keep an eye out for ARES volunteers, some
of them plan on even bringing video camera to document the whole thing.
And if it is a THF6A you are wanting, let me know. I won a brand new
one as a door prize at the Dayton Hamfest 2 weeks ago, and I am willing
to sell it right now, still in the unopened box. (Since I already have a
THF6A, this one is extra)
