Team Snow Valley Century, Sunday 1 September 1996
Maybe these guys will have WWW presence someday soon so I can
link to them. They figured out a neat route, criss-crossing an
area between the Patuxent River and the Chesapeake Bay. The
Start/Finish was in Deale, MD (about 20 miles South of
Annapolis). The ride got as far south as Friendship, MD
and as far north as Crownsville, MD. There were hills - not
flat like the Eastern Shore.
It was a beautiful clear day, not too hot. The countryside
was tobbaco and horse farms, woods near the Patuxent River,
and occasional glimpses of the Cheasapeake Bay. The
Maryland Renaissance Festival
was underway in Crownsville.
One neat thing about this ride was that it is my fastest
century so far. 6:40 on the bike, for an average riding
speed of 15 mph.
Mount Vernon Loop
A 26 mile loop, South from the Beltway along Telegraph Road,
through Ft. Belvoir on Beulah Rd, a quick jog to the North
on Route 1, over to Mount Vernon,
and North on the bike path into Old Town Alexandria.
