Rover Report - January 2002 VHF SS Contest - Mark Kovalan - K8XK
Figured I'd throw in my 2 cents (actually 1%) worth on January 2002 VHF roving.
Any VHF participation prior to Jan '02 was purely incidental. Such as in the parking lot at work at lunch time as the big program required working weekends a lot. (But let me tell you about 3 really neat ASICs sometime...)
Anyway, I joined in the local 4-corners grid square setups for a few hours, primarily keeping NA0IA/R entertained until the other serious rovers arrived on scene. Also had a small amount of operating later in the evening, but the relatively low activity in this area is rather striking, aside from the Cedar Rapids Microwave Society rovers (If QST's contest info is encouraging anyone to work VHF and up, I'd hate to see how dead the bands might be if this encouragement is removed).
Results for this meager rover participation are as follows:
Band
Qs
Grids
50 MHz
29
4
144 MHz
36
6
432 MHz
26

1296 MHz

With 4 grids activated, this was 4531 points. Perhaps a 1% addition to CRMS club score.
