Rover Report - Jan 2002 VHF SS Contest - Steve Sawyers, NA0IA

NA0IA/R, N0LNO/R, and KA0YSQ/R ran as a rover tag team to have someone to work and have a backup in case of car trouble.
Joe Spinks and I activated 9 grids and just covered 800 miles due to vehicle problems with N0LNO/R, but we only had one fuse failure and all radio equipment survived.
Operation was with omni antennas and Run and Gun or as we call it Rover-A-Go-Go.
It was a pleasant drive due to the unusually mild winter.
We were visited by numerous law enforcement due to farmers calling about the strange vehicles. September 11th has sensitized everyone to report strange goings on.
In the last several hours of the contest we dropped three rovers with 7 bands into EN24.
The ensuing activity was like kicking a beehive! What a rush!!
We finished the contest in the Twin Cities and drove home. We arrived home at 2:30 AM.
We especially enjoyed the activity and words of encouragement from all the Minnesota VHF'ers.
Still working on the web page and the pictures.
